Jack Nicholson's directorial debut is one of the finest pieces of unseen '70s cinema, and finally here it is for your viewing pleasure. Although its themes are now somewhat outdated--draft dodging, campus unrest--Nicholson's filmmaking skills still make DRIVE, HE SAID relevant. William Tepper is a star college basketball player who finds it difficult to keep his head in the game as he sorts out life as young man in the early 1970s. Bruce Dern turns in a fantastic performance as his manic coach. And what's a great '70s flick without Karen Black? Nicholson doesn't act in this one, but his personality is felt nonetheless, especially in the magnificent basketball sequences. Highly recommended.
