If you love 1970s TV movies and you haven't seen THE BOY IN THE PLASTIC BUBBLE, you are missing out on one of the classics of the genre. The kitsch factor runs very high here, with a pre-SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, Sweathog-era John Travolta as Tod, a young man born with the unfortunate disposition of having no immune system. He must live his entire life in a germ-free environment. He has basically grown up in an enclosed space in his house, but when he gets the hots for the girl next door, he ventures out into the world in a plastic bubble. Adding to the distinctly '70s feel is the presence of Robert Reed (aka Mike Brady) as his dad, complete with fuzzy-caterpillar mustache and leisure suit. The movie is alternately touching and laughable, and just may leave you a little teary-eyed at the end. Behind the director's chair is Randal Kleiser, who would direct Travolta two years later in GREASE. Highly recommended!
