Disaster films like THE POSIEDON ADVENTURE, THE TOWERING INFERNO and AIRPORT were all the rage on the big screen in 1970s. It would only be a matter of time before they made their way to the small screen, and 1979's DISASTER ON THE COASTLINER delivers the goods in a big way.

Directed by the vastly underrated Richard C. Sarafian (former brother-in-law of Robert Altman and director of big screen classics VANISHING POINT and THE LOLLY-MADONNA WAR), COASTLINER boasts a top-notch cast with William Shatner, Raymond Burr and Lloyd Bridges lighting up the small screen. The plot revolves around an ex-railway employee who plans to get back at his former company by exposing a flaw in their computer-controlled systems. Will their be a big crash, or will Shat save the day again?

OK, you can probably figure out how it all ends (the suspense doesn't exactly qualify as white-knuckle), but that doesn't stop this from being one of the more enjoyable artifacts from the era where the Movie of the Week was an event worthy of crowding around the family TV set.
