Timothy Carey is one of the great unsung heroes in the history of American independent filmmmaking. He worked in front of the camera for like-minded indie heroes Stanley Kubrick and John Cassavetes, but is perhaps best known for this, his lone directorial effort.
Carey wrote, directed, starred in and financed this bizarre, yet profound, tale of an insurance salesman who starts looking for a higher calling in life. He first looks for it in politics, but becomes consumed with absolute power, and before long is going by the name of "God."
Although he wasn't able to secure a wide release for SINNER, Carey's film left a lasting impact on future indie filmmakers. (He also showed great foresight by hiring a young Frank Zappa to do the soundtrack.) It was was far ahead of its time both in form and content, and has survived as a highly sought-after cult item. Here is a high quality copy, a must-have for any lover of underground cinema!
